Best Management Practices:
Channel Stabilization [Ch]

Channel stabilization is the improvement, construction, or stabilization of an open channel or waterway to prevent erosion and the deposit of sediment while providing adequate capacity for drainage and floodwater.

Dependent on the expected amount of water; channels can be stabilized with rock, concrete, or permanent vegetation. Soil under a rip-rap lined channel should be protected with a non-woven geotextile liner. When vegetation is used, an erosion control blanket is generally required.

Channel stabilization should not compromise the environmental integrity of the area.
