Best Management Practices: Gabion [Ga]
Large wire mesh boxes with multiple linked cells filled with rock, gabions provide stabilization for steep and highly erosive slopes.
Gabions can be used in applications such as retaining walls, channel stabilizations (Ch), and abutments where vegetation is not a practical alternative to stabilize the exposed slope.
The baskets vary in size and depth and are linked with wire to form flexible building blocks. The rock used in gabions is typically four to eight inches in diameter.
