Best Management Practices: Inlet Sediment Trap [Sd2]
Formed around storm drain drop inlets, inlet sediment traps are designed to prevent sediment from entering storm drainage systems.
All drop inlets that receive runoff prior to final stabilization should be protected with sediment traps. Traps can consist of a baffle box, block and gravel, or more commonly filter fabric and a frame.
After an area is paved, inlets should be protected with "pigs-in-a-blanket" or simply "pigs." These are typically gravel bags wrapped with wire, blocks wrapped in filter fabric, or waddles.
Sediment should be removed (not washed into the inlet) when the capacity of the trap is one-half full.
